One road leads into town; one road leads out. Follow either long enough and you will find yourself right back where you started.

North, east and south of town lays a dense temperate rainforest. It is extremely easy to get lost in the woods as there are few hiking paths and the dense trees can make finding landmarks difficult. The woods are full of life: deer, owls, ravens, eagles, and foxes can be spotted frequently. Land predators like coyotes, wolves, and black bears are also common, and are best avoided. Hairy man-shaped creatures can also sometimes be spotted, but these will flee if approached.

Within the forest are occasional glowing gateways, neon coloured squares and rectangles rising from the mossy ground. Walking through these induces a sense of nausea, disorientation, and existential dread as they transport you to another glowing doorway closer to town.

Walk far enough and the ground will incline until you find yourself hiking up a mountain. Thick fog drenches the woods around you no matter what the weather was like at the foot of the mountain until you can scarcely see where you are. Reach the top and you will see huge shapes moving in the fog just beyond where you sense there must be a drop. If you stray too close to the mountain's edge, massive humanoid hands will appear to warn (or even push) you back.

To the west of town is the ocean. There are some sandy beaches and even more rocky ones, all flanked by more coniferous trees. The one 'tourist' beach lays just below town and boasts a single ice cream stand, and an old concrete block building containing public bathrooms and an outdoor shower around one side.

Sea otters, harbour seals, and the occasional orca can be spotted in the waves offshore. Occasionally something larger and serpent-like will break the surface of the water, usually around dawn.

Downtown really only consists of two streets, but within those two streets you can find everything you might need! There's a grocery store, a bookshop, a bakery, a pharmacy, and a diner where you can get a damn fine cup of coffee. If your tastes are a little more bougie, there's a proper coffeeshop too. There's also an antique store, and a psychic shop that never seems to be open.

At the edge of town there's even a 7-11, open twenty-four hours.

Scarlet Bay is a typical small town. Residences are grouped to the north and south of Downtown, with the north being mostly two, three, and four bedroom houses with yards. To the south of downtown are a few apartment buildings and smaller homes, most of which are a little older and more run down.

There are a few small cabins closer to the woods and a few rickety homes along the waterfront. There's even some caravans you can move wherever you want!

The Mall isn't quite dead, but it does feel worn out. There are stores inside that are open, selling clothes and appliances and other things typically offered in a North American shopping centre. For every open store there are at least two that are shuttered, with whole sections of the mall more or less abandoned.

The Mall is much bigger inside than out, and the corridors have a habit of moving around. It's possible to get lost in the Mall for days.

There's a food court somewhere in the centre of the Mall, and if you can find it you can have some completely underwhelming fast food!
